About a week ago we noticed a Dove sitting in my herb planter on the deck! A nest was made in the chives and thyme. We have learned that Mourning Doves lay two eggs (Twins!!) lol. The male and female share parental responsibilities, with the male sitting on the eggs for much of the day and the female taking over in the late afternoon and remaining through the night and early morning. The eggs hatch in about two weeks and chicks fledge about two weeks after that.
This pair of Doves let us look at them VERY close, I think I could actually pet them if I wanted to! It is so much fun watching this all hapen up close!
If all goes as planned....maybe this weekend the twins will be here!
I knew it had something to do with babies!!!!! Can't wait to see the twins:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Looking forward to following their progress.I had a nest fulll of baby birds that I did a post about, too.
ReplyDeleteI think you might give people/family a heart attack with that heading.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! It is always so wonderful when you can get up close with nature.
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting and will be fun to watch. Cardinals made a nest in our azaleas when we lived in Vicksburg right in front of the dining room window. We were able to watch each step. Very exciting. Keep us posted on the progress.

How cute! I love stories like this one. I recently found a new nest in my garden, but it was empty. I guess the birds realized it wasn't a good location (I trim that bush quite often); I hope they are happy somewhere else.
