The next
HBinFive baking assignment was to make Red Beet Buns! Sounds a little weird I must admit -- but these buns are amazing! They have a mixture of ingredients - white whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, spelt flour, vital wheat gluten, finely shredded peeled raw beets, and white onion finely chopped. Shredding the beats is slightly messy, using rubber gloves is a must! The dough turned a beautiful dark pink.
The color is beautiful, perfect for Valentine's Day! The taste is wonderful, you taste the beets but not overly much. They are not solid red, but flecked inside.

These made great dinner rolls tonight and will be sandwich buns tomorrow!

Kendra, you made me curious. I want to make these when things slow down and my arm is better. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteI think we have a winner here! They are beautiful! I have never seen anything like them. I bet they are really tasty! Have a great day:)
ReplyDeleteHow unique to use beets. I love the color!
ReplyDeleteYour buns look perfect! I'm so impressed. I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteOh...I made a mess with my beet dough and had red juice every where! But your buns are shaped so nicely and such a gorgeous color too!
ReplyDeleteWe loved the Red Beet Buns and are eating the last of them today! Husband was not too happy about eating beet buns until he tasted them!
after reading about all that mess so many experienced (thank good for cooked beets) i actually dreamed about handling raw beets last night and I clearly remember walking around with stained hands for over a week.
ReplyDeleteYour beet buns were perfect! Nice work.
ReplyDeleteThey were messy weren't they? Yours turned out so pretty. I agree with you about liking them. They were fun to make.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI did not use gloves when I shredded the beets and so I got to go around telling people that I was a mass murderer for a few days. I definitely got a few strange glances on the subway as well. But at least I got a seat.
ReplyDeleteThey look so good!
They look beautiful. I wonder why mine didn't have the pink flecks inside. If you have a food processor...beet shredding is perfect for it. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour beet buns look lovely! I also thought the color was beautiful. Mine had flecks inside as well.
ReplyDeleteThe color was awesome and i'm glad I tried this recipe. Yours look wonderful!
