Slow-Roasted Spiced Baby Back Ribs

I have been making these ribs for years!!!! They are very easy, great for a crowd and everybody always wants the recipe! These are baked in the oven for 3 1/2 to 4 hours at a very low oven -- 250 degrees. They turn out so tender and pretty much fall off the bone.

What you will need:
6 pounds baby back ribs
1/4 cup sweet or hot paprika
2 tablespoons kosher salt
1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup chili powder
5 to 6 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons ground cumin
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Your favorite barbecue sauce

Use your fingers to pull off and remove the thin papery skin from the back of each rib. Combine the paprika, salt, sugar, chili powder, garlic, cumin, mustard, and cayenne in a small bowl and mix well. Rub the mixture all over the ribs. Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. ( I always do mine the night before)

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Place the ribs meat side up in one layer on several sheet pans and bake, turning from time to time, until very tender, 3 1/2 to 4 hours. About 30 minute before the ribs are done, remove them from the oven and brush liberally on all sides with the barbecue sauce. Bake until very tender.

This recipe serves 6. Since I am a Empty Nester but we both enjoy ribs -- I will just buy one rack, use the rub and refrigerate the the rest of the rub for the next time!

  4. You rub recipe sounds delicious. Glad I made it back to blogging after my BIG move in time to catch this recipe. I missed everyone so much!

Thanks for the hint about cutting it in half, cooking for one can be challenging, but I love me some ribs. Leftovers work well around here, but I don't want to eat the same thing for a week, lol.

  5. YUM! Wow, they look good and I'm not a huge rib fan. I don't like getting messy when I eat - I'm weird like that. But they are tasty!

    Enjoy your Mother's Day!
